Explanation

This verse comes near the beginning of Paul's letter to the church in Corinth, in a section where he gives thanks to God for the believers there (1 Corinthians 1:4-9). The "who" in verse 8 refers back to Jesus Christ, mentioned in verse 7. Paul is saying that Christ himself will strengthen and sustain the Corinthian believers all the way to the end, so that when the final day comes — the day of judgment when Jesus returns — they will be found blameless, without accusation against them.

To understand this properly, it helps to know the situation Paul was addressing. The Corinthian church was troubled by division, immorality, pride, and confusion about spiritual gifts. Much of the letter that follows is Paul correcting and rebuking them. Yet before he gets into all that correction, he opens with genuine thanksgiving, reminding them of God's grace already given to them in Christ (verse 4) and God's faithfulness to keep them secure (verse 9, "God is faithful, through whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son").
