A Prayer for Direction and Guidance

Proverbs 3:5-6 is one of the most quoted guidance passages in Scripture. But it's a promise attached to a posture — trust, not leaning on your own understanding, and acknowledging God in all your ways. This prayer adopts that posture.

Prayer

Lord,

I am standing at a decision I can't see past. I have weighed what I know. I have thought, and planned, and worried, and I still don't have clarity.

So I come to you — not as a last resort, but because you said to. You promised that if I acknowledge you in all my ways, you will make my paths straight.

I acknowledge you now. I don't want to go the way that seems right to me if it's not the way you have for me.

Give me wisdom. You said you give it generously — I'm asking.

Give me peace about the right direction — that guard on my heart that tells me I'm walking in step.

And where I must simply take a step in the dark, help me to trust that you will redirect me if I wander off the path.

I commit this decision to you. Direct my steps.

Amen.

Rooted in Proverbs 3:5-6, James 1:5, and Philippians 4:7. The prayer acknowledges the limitation of human discernment while claiming the specific promises God makes about guidance.
