A Prayer for Guidance and Direction

Decisions — big and small — are one of the most common reasons people pray. The Bible's approach to guidance is less about finding a "plan B" written on the wall and more about a posture: trust, humility, and an openness to being shown the next step rather than the whole map.

Prayer

Lord, I don't know which way to go.

There's a decision in front of me — or a season of uncertainty — and I genuinely cannot see clearly. I've thought about it. I've looked at it from different angles. I may have asked for advice. And I still don't know.

So I'm asking you. Not just for peace about the decision, but for actual direction — a sense of where to go, what to do, what to stop doing.

Give me wisdom. You said you'd give it generously, without finding fault. I'm asking for that.

Close the doors that should be closed, even if I'm reluctant. Open what you intend, even if it surprises me. Make my path clear — not necessarily from here to the finish, but the next step. I can work with the next step.

And help me trust that if I commit what I'm doing to you, you'll direct my steps. I'm trying to do that. I'm bringing this to you.

Amen.

This prayer is built around three biblical promises: James 1:5 (wisdom given generously on request), Proverbs 3:5-6 (commit your way and your steps will be directed), and Psalm 119:105 (a lamp for the next step, not a floodlight for the whole road). It asks for real guidance, not just peace about uncertainty.
