A Prayer for Peace of Mind
Isaiah 26:3 promises "perfect peace" to those whose minds are fixed on God. The Hebrew word for perfect peace here is shalom shalom — a doubling that indicates completeness. This prayer reaches for that stillness.
Prayer
Lord,
My mind won't settle. Thoughts come and don't stop — worries, what-ifs, replays of things I cannot change.
I know the verse: you will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are fixed on you. I am trying to fix my mind on you right now.
Help me. The trying is hard when the noise is loud.
Be my stillness, Lord. Not by removing all difficulty — but by being more present to me than the noise.
I breathe in the knowledge that you are here. I breathe out what I cannot control.
You hold what I cannot hold. You see what I cannot see. You are working in the things that feel like they are working against me.
Let that be enough for tonight. Let that be enough for this moment.
Peace — the peace you give, not the peace the world gives — be real to me now.
Amen.
Draws from Isaiah 26:3, John 14:27, and Philippians 4:7-8. The prayer uses breath as a physical anchor — a common contemplative practice with deep roots in Christian tradition.

Scripture behind this prayer
Isaiah 26:3
"You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you."
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
John 14:27
"Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful."
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.
Philippians 4:8
"Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things."
Think about whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right — fix your thoughts there.
Psalms 4:8
"In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety."
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.
