A Prayer for Someone You Love

Intercession — praying for others — is one of the most concrete ways love shows up in prayer. These prayers don't require the other person to know you're praying, or to deserve it. They're simply the act of bringing someone else before God, which is itself a form of care.

Prayer

Lord, I bring someone to you right now.

You know them — their name, their situation, what they're carrying that I don't even know about. You love them more than I do, which is saying something, because I love them a lot.

I pray for their wellbeing — body, mind, and spirit. For rest where they're exhausted, for courage where they're afraid, for clarity where they're confused.

I pray for whatever they need most right now — and since I often don't know what that is, I trust you with the specifics.

Where they are hurting, be near. Where they are doing well, be there too.

If there's something I can do for them — something practical, a word, showing up in some way — make it clear to me. I want to love them in ways they can actually feel.

I trust them to you. You hold them better than I can.

Amen.

This prayer models intercession as Paul describes it in Philippians 1:3-11 — praying with joy, confidence, and love for a specific person. It holds both the general ("their wellbeing") and the specific ("what they need most right now"), trusting God with the details the pray-er doesn't know.
